Roles and Identities

Content

I learned a new skill from one of my teenage clients.
OK I'm still not skilled...but I accomplished a thing I could never manage before, making an origami crane.

I managed under the gentle instruction, demonstration and support of my client, who was so patient and kind throughout.

In occupational therapy we talk about meaningful occupation all the time, but we also talk about roles and identities. It's important for me to not take on an expert role when it comes to my clients lived experience and what bring them meaning, and who they are as a person. I'm on your journey while you're with me, and I don't dictate the direction you go.
The roles today may have seemed reversed, my client as the expert, the leader and the teacher and me as the follower. But this is not a role reversal because we are an alliance and a partnership and this was their skill to teach.

We had lovely flow throughout and we both got to keep our creations!
Can you guess which is mine and which is theirs?!
